Jason Ong
Singapore
Jason Ong arranged his first score in 1987, despite having no formal music education. Since then, he has arranged and composed dozens of songs for his two a cappella groups, In-A-Chord and Key Elements. TCR a cappella, a Chinese a cappella group which he was also a member for more than a decade, performed his arrangements extensively.
Jason also co-founded the Singapore Men’s Chorus (now known as Sing! Men’s Chorus, or SMC) in 2005, and led the chorus until 2014. Most of the songs performed by the chorus during that period were arranged by him.
Having worked with singers from 7 to 70, Jason’s arrangements often includes witty references to other songs. His love for jazz and pop music are apparent in his scores. He was awarded Best Arranger in Taiwan’s 4th National “Sing Sing Together” Choral/Vocal Competition in 2004. In 2013, Key Elements recorded an album of original songs, all of which were composed and arranged by Jason. “Uncovered”, the album, as well as the track “Master Of The House” were both nominated for best world album, and best jazz single in the 2014 American CARA Awards. His arrangements have been performed by choirs locally and abroad, and he is regularly commissioned to arranged for school choirs and vocal groups in Singapore.
