Gaius Lee
Singapore
Gaius Lee (b.1995) graduated from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music (Summa cum laude) with a double major in composition, and music history and literature. Born and raised in Singapore, he was awarded the Tyndale House Foundation Scholarship and the National Arts Council (Singapore) Scholarship to study at Wheaton. During his time as a student, he was awarded the Josephine Halvorsen Memorial Composition Prize in the Spring of 2017, the Annual Composition Competition Prize in the Fall of 2018 for his work Before the Last Sigh for solo flute, and the prestigious Presser Scholarship. Most of his compositional works draw influence from East Asian and South East Asian cultures, syncretizing them with Western vocabulary. He hopes to continue to contribute to Singapore's arts and music scene as an effective arts administrator and a local composer.
