$5.00

Transcribed for equal voices by Jude B. Roldan, Chua-ay is the third movement from the composition Ayug Ti Amianan ‘Scenes From The North’ written by Fidel Calalang Jr.

This third movement is an energetic setting based on the theme of the Ifugao rice pounding folk song Chua-ay. The piece depicts Igorot tribes at work, chanting while pounding rice by means of huge mortar and heavily weighted posts to separate the rice grains from its husks. The Igorots or 'mountaineers' refers to the collective tribes of the Cordillera Region which comprises the provinces of Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Apayao.
