An Iroy Nga Tuna [Motherland] (SATB)

Composed by Federico Acebedo, the song ‘An Iroy Nga Tuna’ is a passionate, sentimental and romantic expression of a people’s sense of nationhood or love of country. The song is particularly well-known among the older generations of Eastern Visayans. Its lyrics, which originally consist of two versions, were written by Iluminado Lucente, the poet laureate of Leyte. While the first version was written from within the context of American colonial rule, the second version was written when the country was granted its independence by the Americans. It is this second version which has been used for this arrangement.
