Maupay Ngo Pasko [Merry Christmas] (SATB)

“Maupay Nga Pasko” (Merry Christmas) is a narrative song endemic among those who speak Binisaya, the dominant language of Eastern Visayas. Just like most folk songs, its composer is unknown. Based on its melodic and rhythmic profile, the song exemplifies the strong influence that Spanish colonization has brought to the religious and cultural life of Eastern Visayas. In its original form, the song is usually sung by rural carollers who spread Christmas cheer in the town or city proper accompanied by the dancing girls which is consistent with the tradition of the locality.
